It’s not an indulgence: it’s a necessity!
When you fly, have you noticed that the safety instructions always recommend you put on your own oxygen mask before attempting to help others? Well it’s the same in our everyday lives; we need to help ourselves before we can help others.
We can forget this but it is vitally important to look after ourselves if there are others dependent on us for their care. We often put ourselves at the bottom of the priority list but what if we get sick or aren’t there anymore? It is not indulgent to look after yourself. On the contrary, it’s essential.
Keep your eyes on the prize … better skin and health.
It’s easy to focus on what you can’t have when you are doing a detox and think of the week in terms of deprivation. But this is a mindset and not often the case unless you are doing a very restrictive cleanse.
Many years ago I was treating a lovely lady for acne. She was doing the Vital Cleanse and one day as she sat down to lunch one of her colleagues said, “I see you have another one of your gourmet lunches!”
That comment prompted her to look at her meal with fresh eyes. It was full of colourful, fresh vegetables, covered with a delicious dressing and topped with slices of chicken breast. She scanned the rest of the lunches in the room, uninspiring sandwiches, dry rice crackers with boring toppings, fatty meat pies and a whole variety of processed foods. She decided that she was indeed eating the most delicious lunch in the room and she was the one who was supposed to be ‘deprived’. It certainly helped her think differently about her programme and it was a reminder that eating well is a wonderful (and delicious) experience.
