It has recently been discovered that if you don’t sleep well you are more likely to have skin that is rapidly ageing and is less resilient when exposed to environmental stressors like UV and low humidity levels.
A study involving 60 pre-menopausal women showed that the quality of our sleep impacts on the functioning and rate of ageing of our skin. Poor sleepers had skin that aged faster and recovered slower from stressors in the environment like UV exposure. They also had reduced skin health and more fine lines, uneven pigmentation, reduced elasticity and slackening of the skin than their good-sleeping counterparts.
Those women who were quality sleepers had skin that recovered more quickly and efficiently from external stressors, repairing any damage over 30% faster.
So it is a fact, a good night’s sleep will result in younger looking skin that is able to repair damage quicker. So make sure you are tucked up in bed by 10pm so you really can enjoy your beauty sleep!
