Creating the Janesce plant essences is a time-honoured process and one of the reasons Janesce products offer so many benefits to our skin. When you imagine that each plant is able to offer at least six different benefits and then you times that by how many plants are in each product, and again by how many different products you are using in a day and you can start to get a picture of just how powerful this amazing range is.
Echinacea
One of my favourite herbs is Echinacea. Its name comes from the Greek word ‘echinos’ which means hedgehog. It gets this name because when the flowers die off in winter and the purple petals fall, you are left with a little brown prickly flower head that looks just like a hedgehog.
Echinacea is one of the more difficult plants to grow at Claret Ash Farm, the home of Janesce. It is a prairie plant and has adapted to growing under snow. This presents a few challenges to grow it successfully in South Australia. The team at Janesce plant the seeds in pots in January and allow the plant to grow well before winter sets in. The plant then dies off in the cold weather and springs to life again in mid October. At this point they can finally be transplanted out into the herb garden.
So what does echinacea do for our skin?
- It is very anti-inflammatory, helping to calm and strengthen our skin.
- It stimulates our lymphatic system, one of our main waste removal systems, so it helps keep our skin looking fresh.
- It encourages the blood circulation to our skin which is responsible for nourishing our cells.
- It is healing and can help stimulate our skin’s immune system
- It is also a good source of vitamins A, C and E and a number of minerals
- It is to protect collagen, our anti-wrinkle fibre, from sun damage. This helps counteract the ageing effect sun can have on our skin.
